THINKING SHOES

The camera flash is the light of inquiry. It is harsh. It is cold. It is necessary. For an image to be revealed it must safeguard some of its mystery.

Seduction begins with the phenomenon of concealment. From there, the body is slowly revealed but never fully. Thus, a sublime photograph, like a painting, must remain hidden in part. In Thinking Shoes the figure is rendered a goddess in white thanks to the flashing of strong light that gives only the form’s silhouette.

In a photograph, the harshness of the flash is counterbalanced with the phenomenon of the blackness of its cast shadow. The body creates a double in silhouette. The power of the flash held close, whiting out details and keeping the goddess in the hidden white, protects her purity.

Purity is striving, the longing for something whole and deep within the unspoken investiture of faith and promulgation.

Every girl is a goddess.

Every woman is a girl.
