HAPPY HOUR

There is an hour in every day when the light of the sun is broken by the lamps of spirits and the bottles of wines. In this hour, in Miami, a girl drinks a cocktail as she is surrounded by speakers of Spanish and dreamers of dreams replete with refuge, eros, and contemporary things.

She sips her drink loudly, almost brazenly and right before a photo is taken with a camera dating back to the late 1960s. A flash is used and an image appears, months later. It is this striking contrast between the momentary glimpse of illuminated skin and the deep black of the shadow behind that makes any moment a potential scene in a black and white film of visions and fantasy. Her blonde hair becomes a character too.

The happiest hour is the time between longing and fulfillment, undeterred, uninterrupted, free of sorrow and full of an embrace of the moment. In that hour, a flash will light her and bring her image to permanence on paper long after she has exited the bar and your life.
